Daisy Dunlop has become best known for her handmade cast resin jewelry She works from her studio in Cornwall, England producing jewelry which blends layer cast resin with semi precious stones, pearls and precious metals to create a range of unique, bespoke and limited edition pieces.
The resin pieces are layer cast and embedded in stages with plants, petals, poems, collage, silks, handmade papers, feathers and other fragments. The castings are tinted and layered to emphasize the material’s potential for containing light, creating luminous pieces that seem to glow against skin when worn. She has always set out to rework the association plastic frequently has with being something new, artificial, hard edged and literal. She achieves this by creating an endless variety of irregularly shaped moulds and employing different finishes on the cast resin pieces, many of which deliberately blur and obscure the embedded contents, with fragments of words, collage, petals and other encapsulations only just discernable. Each cast piece is hand sanded down in a lengthy process to a delicately contoured soft finish.
