Alison Sudol is known professionally as A Fine Frenzy, an American alternative singer and songwriter and pianist. She grew up listening to a wide range of music, including Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, and swing.

Sudol had a passion for literature, and immersed herself in the works of C. S. Lewis, E.B. White, Lewis Carroll, Anthony Trollope and Charles Dickens. Her artist name, "A Fine Frenzy", is taken from a verse in William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream (Theseus, Act 5, Scene 1 - "The poet's eye, in a fine frenzy rolling, doth glance from heaven to earth, from earth to heaven"). She became an author in her own right, and after teaching herself to play the piano, began putting her creative energy into writing songs.

But I have a wild side too. I like to bang on things and cause a ruckus every now and then. I'm a quiet person with a loud streak. I like both. This record is a testament to that."

Born in Seatlle and raised in Los Angeles, it's clear that no matter how much of her life is spent on stages and in studios, she retains a close relationship to the outdoors, and to the spirit of fantasy she found in writers like Lewis Carroll and C.S. Lewis.

"That's who I am, that's the way I see the world,". "It's broadened, but it hasn't changed. On tour, some of the most amazing moments came in seeing the world: parks, mountains, rivers, oceans. That reminds me of who I am as a human being, and whatever I do, I'll find a way to work with those elements."

Sudol has often referred to the literary influences on her music. More recently she has disclosed that she is also pursuing a secondary career as a writer. In an interview she said she was writing a children's story in the "Narnia" tradition, a fantasy featuring animals.
